To my fellow journalers out there or readers who want to start journaling, but may not know where to begin, an exercise I really enjoy doing at the beginning of each year is a page dedicated to ‘What God has in store for me’ as in ‘What God has in store for me in 2019’.
When I was a student living in Port Elizabeth, I attended an amazing church called Fathers House. Every year they hold a women’s conference and in 2017, when I was in third year, I attended my first ‘Worthy’ event. It was during one of the guest speakers speeches that she suggested the idea of journaling about ‘What God has in store for me’ instead of your ‘New Years resolutions’. This idea really intrigued me since I have never really enjoyed the idea of ‘New Years resolutions’. After all, I don’t like the pressure our resolutions can put on our shoulders when there are so many other things that add pressure to our daily lives. I feel as if writing about what God has planned for the year ahead has not only served as a source of motivation, but also a positive reminder of my goals, hopes and dreams. This has helped me to be consistent with my journaling and has especially helped me in remembering that I am not walking this journey alone. God is always by my side and He has so much planned for my life.
The beauty of this exercise lies in the fact that whatever you may anticipate happening in the year ahead that doesn’t end up being fulfilled, you are able to take note of and watch how God fulfills His promises in the future, usually always in a way you won’t be expecting. After all, ‘Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart’ (Psalm 37:4).
Here are 9 things God has in store for me in 2019:
- A renewed mind, heart and spirit
- Healing and Forgiveness
- Passing my board exam
What are 9 things God has in store for you in 2019?
Until next time xx
