Confessions of a wannabe Blogger

I want to start off by saying that it has been an absolute privilege being able to share my inner most thoughts and experiences with you through my blog this year. Life is a journey and I am so very grateful that I am able to walk an authentic road with all of my readers.

One of the first blog posts I wrote about at the beginning of the year was titled “Why I chose the name me”. I briefly gave my readers a glimpse into my reasons for wanting to start a blog, along with my blogs purpose, aims, hopes and dreams. I have been posting one blog post a week and with two more weeks left to go, I thought I would dedicate a blog post where we are able to dive a little deeper into this particular conversation.

My blog is first and foremost a Christian lifestyle blog. My main aim is to share a lot of my own experiences as a young woman and follower of God as well as what I have learned as a psychology student and Counsellor. I believe that there is not enough access to basic psychological skills and knowledge for the general public. I therefore hope that by sharing my knowledge on various psychological information, it can provide the insight people may need to feel more resilient in their every day lives, outside of a typical counselling setting. I hope that by sharing my own thoughts and obstacles or questions I may encounter and ask myself along my own life journey, people can feel a sense of comfort, support, normality and motivation. I also hope that people come to know a part of God’s heart, to learn about His unconditional love and grace through my unique life story, lessons and testimonies.

I first and foremost started my blog because I want to create a space for people to come and feel like they can be themselves, where the masks that this world teaches us to put on in order to protect ourselves can begin to fade away and fall off. This is a place where we are free to be our authentic selves, unapologetic for our quirks, accepting of our individuality and where we are free to embrace our imperfections.

I feel as if in a world that constantly tells us that we aren’t good enough and that constantly forces us to compare ourselves and our lives to the facades on social media, a world that constantly expects and demands perfection, makes it so incredibly hard for us to grow into our truest selves and remain comfortable with who we are.Firstly, can I just say how boring and exceedingly tiring that sounds? We aren’t made to be perfect and life itself is tiring enough as it is. I believe that hiding from and judging those around us instead of accepting and loving one another should stop being our constant reality. Doesn’t the thought of always striving for perfection or comparing oneself to the journey that doesn’t even come close to the tailor made path we each are walking on completely exhaust you?

This is why I want to provide a space, through this blog, for people to take a break from their busy, every day lives in order to have more of an opportunity to dedicate their time to a bit of self-reflection. Our world always feels like it wants to consume all of our time, therefore I want this space to be a place where we can hit the pause button and prioritise being mindful and fully present as much as we can. This is a space where we get to take a break from the inauthenticity that surrounds us, while we focus on little things like joy, gratitude and all things that are good. I also hope that this is a place where we can gain perspective by reminding ourselves of the bigger picture. This is a place that I aim to help my readers feel safe and secure. A place where we can rejoice in our imperfections and prioritise time to learn and grow together.

One of my biggest hopes for my blog is that through my blog posts, the various topics and personal experiences I write about and choose to share, helps to build self-awareness, self-understanding and self-acceptance. I believe there is such power in self-awareness and something so intimate and rare when we put time aside to get to know ourselves. I believe that it can lead to long-lasting confidence, self-love and resilience in our day-to-day lives. I believe that this goal of mine is important as I aim to reduce the ever-climbing mental health statistics of our world by increasing the love and acceptance we have and can show to ourselves and to each other. I want to give us the opportunity to feel like the weight of the world can be lifted off of our shoulders when we come together to discuss normal things we may all encounter in our lives. After all, there is love and acceptance present when we are all unapologetically and authentically ourselves – where we are all comfortable in our own skins.

I believe that we each carry so much individual uniqueness and that we each have an amazing story to tell. We each have purpose and we are all needed. I believe that there is also always something to learn from each other.

This is a place where I hope that my readers are reminded of just how special each and every one of us is.

We all have to deal with the hardships life throws our way, even though we may come from different backgrounds and walks of life, but we are all human and we are all in need of love and support. We all make mistakes and we all go through moments of feeling like we want to give up or like we have nothing left to give. I therefore hope my blog is a place where we are able to speak and share truth over one another, where we are able to reach out for help and freely seek comfort, understanding and reassurance. I feel as if there are not enough platforms or opportunities that can offer this space in the world that we live in.

I ultimately hope that my blog is a place where people feel accepted and loved. Where we are free to be our, most honest, authentic and vulnerable selves. I believe there is such freedom, hope and beauty in that. “Help me to be unapologetically and authentically ‘Me’ by being unapologetically and authentically you”

Let us continuously learn, grow and love together!

I want to thank everybody who has supported me throughout 2019. It hasn’t been easy sharing my thoughts, emotions and feelings with the world, but if I can accomplish what I hope to do through this blog, my heart will be so very happy. I am taking the last week of the year for myself in order to fully be present and to appreciate the time I have with my loved ones. I will be posting two blog posts for the first week of January. I’ll see you all in the new year

Merry Christmas, may God bless you all and always remember to be kind to yourself

All my love, Amy xx
